The US based part of Soft Power Health:

After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001, I felt inspired to do something to show the kids of NY that there was hope for the future. I wanted to show them that their own backyard could a playground for discovery, fun and adventure. This is why I thought kayaking would be a great medium to convey values, such as confidence building, patience, respect for nature and risk taking.
In the summer of 2002, the inner city Kids kayaking camp was born on the Hudson river on the west side of Manhattan Island. The inital part of the week included flat water initiation then ocean kayakaing and eventually we made our way to whitewater on the Farmington River in Connecticut. Last year a fantastic experience awaited the returning student: a wilderness river trip in. on the Rogue River in Oregon. It was a fabulous and unforgettable experience for these kids who had never left the big apple for most of them.

How the Kids camps work?

The Kids camps are possible thanks to the collaboration of the Boys and Girls harbor club of NY, various kayak equipment manufacturers and the generosity of different individuals.
Professional kayaking instructors are compensated for their time and their support.
